Introducing: Import Your WordPress Site into Articulation

Moving a website can feel like starting over. You’ve already written the pages, published the posts, uploaded the photos, and organized your store. Rebuilding all of that by hand is a lot to ask.

Our new WordPress importer is now available in beta. It brings your pages, blog posts, images, and WooCommerce products into Articulation, where you can keep working with our visual editor. For most public sites, all you need to get started is your website address.

Start with a free preview. Enter your WordPress site’s address and we’ll generate a preview so you can see how your content looks in Articulation before starting the full import. You don’t need to install a WordPress plugin or give us your WordPress administrator password to preview a public site.

Your existing website stays unchanged. Importing creates a site in Articulation for you to review and edit, and you decide when you’re ready to publish and connect your domain.

Your content becomes editable. The importer recognizes common page elements and rebuilds them using Articulation components. That includes text, images, buttons, columns, galleries, tables, and other familiar building blocks.

Once your site is imported, you can edit text, swap images, rearrange sections, and add new content in the same editor used by every Articulation site. Want to keep the overall design and make a few adjustments? You can. Ready for a bigger refresh? Your imported content gives you a place to start.

Built for different kinds of WordPress sites. WordPress sites come in many shapes, so the importer includes support for content created with the block editor, the classic editor, Elementor, Divi, and WPBakery.

It also works to carry over the details that give your site its identity: colors, fonts, backgrounds, logos, navigation, and page structure. The result will depend on the theme, builder, and features your original site uses. Some layouts may need adjustments after importing, especially where a site relies on custom widgets or effects.

Bring your blog with you. A blog can represent years of work. The importer supports post content, publication dates, cover images, and approved comments when they’re available from the source. WordPress categories and tags become tags in Articulation, keeping those topics available to help organize your posts.

After importing, you can continue publishing with Articulation’s blogging tools, customize your blog’s appearance, and manage comments from your dashboard.

WooCommerce catalogs are welcome too. If your WordPress site includes a store, the importer can bring over simple and variable products, descriptions, images, prices, SKUs, categories, and product reviews. Stock quantities and variation details can also be imported when that information is available.

A WordPress export is especially useful for stores because it can include details that aren’t exposed on the public website. You’ll still need to configure your payment processor and fulfillment settings in Articulation. Downloadable product files and specialized WooCommerce extensions need separate attention; the importer doesn’t recreate those automatically.

Have an export file? You can use that instead. The importer also accepts WordPress export files, including .xml and compressed .xml.gz files up to 500 MB. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Tools → Export → All content, download the export, and upload it when setting up your site in Articulation.

This is useful if your website is private, offline, or blocking public access. An export can also provide more complete content for a large blog or store. You can use it with or without a public site address.

One detail to keep in mind: a WordPress export contains references to images and other media, rather than the files themselves. Those files still need to be reachable for us to copy them. Media transfers may also continue after the page content has finished importing, so give your images and files time to arrive before reviewing the finished site.

Review, customize, and publish when you’re ready. After importing, take a look through your pages, navigation, blog, and products. Check your forms and any embedded services, and make the design adjustments you want before publishing.

WordPress themes and plugins don’t run inside Articulation. We convert supported content into Articulation’s own editing tools, so features that depend on a particular plugin may need to be set up another way. If there’s something you’re unsure about, get in touch and we’ll help you work through it.

Available now in beta. We’re continuing to improve the importer across more themes, builders, and real-world sites. If your preview misses something or a layout needs attention, we’d like to hear about it. Your feedback helps us improve the next import.
